"If thou battle with Monsters, take care, And if thou gaze into the Abyss, -- Friedrich Nietzsche
lest thou become a Monster.
the Abyss gazeth also into thee."

On 17 April 1975, the Khmer Rouge (French for "red Khmer," or Communist Khmer) entered the capital city of Phnom Penh as victors of a Cambodian civil war that had paralleled the one in Vietnam. The Khmer Rouge leader, Pol Pot, proclaimed it to be Year Zero, himself to be Brother Number One, and immediately began implementing plans to transform Cambodia into his vision of a Communist Utopia -- a peaceful agrarian society where all were truly equal.
This is the legacy of Pol Pot's social experiment.
